Leisure time on mount Magdalensberg – a place packed with cultural heritage

Where once Celts and Slavs worshipped Belenus their God of Light, or Swantowit their Sun God, today thousands of faithful Christians make their way as pilgrims. You can also visit the Celtic-Roman excavations including well preserved town districts and such significant finds as “The Magdalensberg Youth”. The excavations lie just downhill from the Gipfelhaus Magdalensberg.

Pilgrimage church and pilgrimage site

First mentioned in 1263 the church is dedicated to saints Helen and Madeleine. It serves as starting point for the “Vierbergelauf” (“four mountains hike”), and is a stage on the Hemma pilgrims’ way, and numerous other pilgrimage paths.
